Did you know that your brain leans towards negativity but that you have the ability to think any thought you want? As you make changes to your thought patterns, your brain adapts.
1. THE BRAIN LEANS TOWARD NEGATIVITY
You must direct it towards more positivity and manage the amount of negative if you want to create more goodness in your life. This doesn’t mean that you won’t or shouldn’t have any negative thoughts. Rather, be aware of your thinking as well as the message of those you surround yourself with, what you are listening to and watching.
2. YOU HAVE THE ABILITY TO THINK ANY THOUGHT YOU WANT
It may not always feel this way. But it’s true. You don’t need to manage most of your thoughts, but a handful of them you’ll want to. While we can’t change our circumstances, we can intentionally change our thoughts about them. Like learning any new skill, this will take some intentional practice over time.
3. YOUR THOUGHTS CREATE YOUR FEELINGS
This is critical. We give meaning to our circumstances through our thoughts, which are the sentences that are constantly running through our minds. Without our thoughts about the words, actions, events... they just happen.
This is why people interpret circumstances differently, and react differently. It's our thoughts that give meaning and context to the circumstance which generates how we feel about it. Many people want to reject this concept and remain victims to their circumstances.
If you are open to discovering why this is true, you can empower yourself and create an extraordinary life.
4. YOUR BRAIN CHANGES CONSTANTLY
As you make changes to your routines, your brain adapts. It prunes away unneeded information to make room for what’s necessary now.
We can use this to advantage when we fully understand it. This allows us to change patterns and behaviors- including patterns of thinking and beliefs- even when we have held tight to them for decades.
5. LIFE IS 50-50
Life is balanced between good and bad, between positive AND negative emotions. Of course we like to feel good & happy but it’s not possible to live a full human experience with only one emotion or only “good” emotions. After all, you have no perspective of happiness if you don’t know other emotions to compare it with, like sadness, fear, grief or frustration.
When you understand that there will be negativity and discomfort along the journey, you set yourself free. Instead of being disappointed because you don’t see the silver lining or thinking that you should be happier, embrace those feelings in that moment. Having the contrast of emotions, experiencing all emotions instead of trying to change them, will make the natural feelings happiness and joy that much sweeter.
SO, HOW DOES THIS ALL MAKE YOU HAPPIER?
You have so much more control over your emotions than you may have realized. That is good news! Because if you don't like how you are feeling, you have the ability to change those feelings by thinking differently. And, because the brain is changing and adapting, you can shift long-held thinking patterns, limiting beliefs and mindset blocks with effort and practice.
Awareness is always the first step.
Start with noticing your actual emotions and the thoughts you are thinking. Don't judge yourself for thinking those thoughts, just notice them. Then, recognize "I am feeling___ because I am thinking____."
Lastly, you can question if that thought/feeling is what you want, if it is true... And, if you want to change how you are feeling... it's just one thought away.
If you would like 1-1 guidance, support and accountability to shift your thinking so you can feel MORE joy, confidence, love or whatever lights you up... I am available to help you.
